The Peacemaker revolver, also known as the single-action Army (ASA), was designed by Samuel Colt in 1873 and was produced with different barrel lengths: the short 4.75-inch version, the longer forms, 5.5 and 7.5 inches, or the impressive 12-inch 'Buntline Special'.
This weapon was initially used by the US Army. However, within a few years most Americans were one of these guns. That ammunition used with the same Winchester M1873 calibre rifle helped its popularity as a sidearm in the American Old West in the late 19th century.
