Mod. 66 carbine, designed by Winchester, USA 1866.

The original Winchester rifle – the Winchester 1866 model – was famous for its sturdy construction and lever mechanism that allowed the rifleman to fire a number of shots before reloading: hence the term “repeating rifle”. The new improved patent by Nelson King remedies Henry’s rifle defects by incorporating a load gate on the side of the frame and integrating a sealed round loader that was covered by a front kick. Originally a chambered in the rimfire .44 Henry, the Model 1866 was nicknamed “Yellow Boy” because of his “brass” receiver (actually a bronze alloy called gunmetal)
